After ten years working in economic development and politics at the state and local level and driving over an hour each way to and from work, working with HTCNE is fulfilling and  captivating in so many ways. I now have the opportunity to apply what I have learned over the years to such a worthy agency. To have an impact on so many lives is simply a happy place to be. In an ideal world there would be no needy children; instead of sitting back and complaining, everyone affiliated with HTCNE is doing something about it, in their own way...one child at a time

Mother of sons Alan, 22 and Shawn, 20 - who have taken a back seat to the needs of HTC occasionally. Twenty-Two years ago I came to volunteer at HTCNE and never made my exit. Throughout the years, I have worked in each program but the medical teams abroad program has always been where my heart is.  I feel privileged to work with the greatest group of people- both medical team personnel And office staff.  It is so rewarding to send these teams out and see the end-results of how many children we were able to help and how our team changed their life! This organization has changed my life and how I look at things as well!

I am a Medical Trips Coordinator by day (Mon. through Thurs.) and a Landscape Architect and Mom the rest of the time.  Sanni (5) is my daughter and chief assistant.  She delivers mail and messages within the office, entertains Uva the new office dog, and draws pictures to decorate our walls.  Kindergarten will be taking her away from the office this year, so I will have to pick up the slack.  I started with HTCNE as a Foster Parent for inbound kids several years ago.  How I morphed into hassling Docs to get their paperwork in for the Medical Teams Program, I do not know.   But, HTCNE does amazing work.  I am honored to be a tiny part of the work that is accomplished and the thousands of lives that are improved each year.

For me, Healing the Children has been an exciting whirlwind of new experiences, relationships, and opportunities. Each day at presents a new challenge, and many new ideas. While the thought of coming into the office to a new project daily does seem a bit daunting, it somehow always works out and ensures a work environment that is far from boring. Every time I am struggling with a challenge, I am comforted by the fact that I am surrounded by a strong support system of knowledgeable office
staff
productive international partners, nurses, doctors, other health professionals, volunteers, and wonderful families all struggling for a common goal: to give kids the medical care they deserve. Through Healing the Children, I have connected with families from all over the world . All of these families have specific and unique needs, and I have been able to be one part of a team working to fulfill those needs. That is why I love this job.

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Political Science, I attended Sacred Heart University where I earned my Masters in Teaching for Elementary Education.  Shortly after receiving my masters, I was diagnosed with a recurrence of leukemia and had to undergo a bone marrow transplant.  While I loved teaching, after recovering from the set backs of the transplant, I wanted a change, and a more fulfilling challenge.   I found Healing the Children by chance (even thought it had been in my backyard for years) and have been thankful ever since.  I feel as though I have truly found my niche in such a wonderful organization.

I am a stay-at-home mother of four children with a B.S. in Veterinary Technology. My children are all in school full time now and I really wanted to find a volunteer opportunity that touched my heart. In January of 2004, I learned about HTCNE and knew that it would be perfect. Although I don't get into the office as often as I would like, I love the time that I'm here and truly adore and admire the rest of the team. I also enjoy the fact that I am surrounded by fellow Dunkin Donuts fans!
